Family support

Supporting Large Families

Raising several children brings great joy and real pressure. This page sets out how we understand the lives of large families, and where community support can make the difference.

“Every family has its own story, challenges, and aspirations. Our organization recognizes the importance of creating a community where families can find understanding, information, and encouragement.”

Understanding large families

In Latvia a family raising three or more children is commonly recognised as a large family (daudzbērnu ģimene). These households carry a great deal of the country's future — and often do so with stretched time, space and budgets.

Everyday challenges

Transport, housing, childcare, school costs and simply finding time for each child are recurring themes. Naming these challenges openly is the first step towards addressing them together.

Family financial awareness

Clear information on household planning, family-related state support and local municipal benefits helps parents make confident decisions. We encourage families to consult official sources such as their municipality and the State Social Insurance Agency (VSAA).

Children's educational needs

Each child needs books, supplies, a quiet place to learn and encouragement. Multiplied across several children, these needs deserve community attention.

Parental responsibilities

Parents of large families are organisers, teachers and carers all at once. Recognising their effort — and their need for rest and support — matters.

Family relationships

Siblings learn cooperation and care from one another. Shared time, honest communication and traditions strengthen those bonds.

Social inclusion

No family should feel excluded from community life because of its size or circumstances. Inclusive events and welcoming attitudes make participation possible.

Community-based support

Neighbours, schools, parishes and associations can share resources, lend a hand and pass on knowledge. Small acts add up.

Access to relevant resources

We aim to point families towards trustworthy information. Our Education and Resources page will collect verified materials as they are approved.

The importance of mutual assistance

Families who have walked the same path are often the best source of practical advice. Mutual assistance is at the heart of our association.
